This is a silly event completely unrelated to Lolita fashion and anime.

This is a project for my sustainabilty class. We're going to rock out for reuse. Just show up in a Bridal Gown. If we get press, I get an A. haha

Anime came at the time same time as i became immersed in cyber punk and the obscure world of teh internets, IRC and AIM chats till 4 in the morning. Listening to Atari Teenage Riot I became obsessed to find the anime sample they used in their song "Start the Riot", with the limitation of the early days of the internet (dial up, ekkk; minuscule global use in comparison to now), i had searched in vain and had all but given up finding the source until I stumbled upon a copy of 3x3 eyes. I watched it and was blown away. Its true the art is nothing like whats being pumped out right now but it had all the raw post modern urge of Gibson.

I had watched a fair bit of anime in my search through my local comic shops video rental section, serial experiment lain, neon genesis evangelion and irresponsible captain Taylor to name a few. Each drawing me in and leaving me breathless. The stories and the art left western animation panting and gasping so far behind it was comical in a cartoony sorta way.

More than anything anime became a gateway drug into Japanese pop culture, through anime i became inspired to learn Japanese(日 本語が少しわかる)research japan's history, street culture, music, cinema and probably most importantly find the amazingly crafted novels by Haruki Murakami (you cant go wrong with stories like: Dance Dance Dance, The wind up bird chronicles and Hard Boiled wonderland and the end of the world).

Anime for me was a fresh break from western comics and cartoon (except DC vertigo). Very little was being made at the time that wasn't cardboard superheros and tired formula so to watch anime was like breathing fresh air after being confined to death in an ancient refrigerator. I'm not alone in this feeling either, there are a lot of artist who took anime to heart and have breathed new life into the comics.

What I like about anime is the stories. They are so deep, and emotionally rousing. I find that most other types of animation don't get me to respond to them the same way that anime does. I also love the characters because there is so much to each of them and they each have so much personality that I can really connect to them.
